This is an incredible paper, really quite good. Transracialism is a topic of growing interest and importance, and Tuvell has made an important first step towards understanding it. Bigots who would attempt to censor this discussion (transracial-exclusionary-radical-non-feminists, as we might call them -- TERNs) must not win.

Ambitious paper, but first, it’s too big of an argument/idea to be written as an article. Second, definitions of “sex”, “gender”, and “race” need to be adequately justified and defended. Not just critiqued. Thus, she runs up against the epistemic regress problem. Third, there’s a contradiction or conflict between her thesis and her footnote: “Importantly, I am not suggesting that race and sex are equivalent. Rather, I intend to show that similar arguments that support transgenderism support transracialism. My thesis relies in no way upon the claim that race and sex are equivalent, or historically constructed in exactly the same way.” But she must how they are sufficiently similar if she wants her analogy to be symmetrical and justified. In the end, I’m not convinced that an analogical argument will help Tuvel’s conclusion be convincing.
